The Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How of the Woven Trifecta
Where it all started
The Woven Trifecta. A big dream that has become a big reality. The Woven Trifecta is a collective of work, consisting of the following:
The Woven Farmstead - A certified naturally grown farm producing food, flowers, and fiber.
The Woven Workshop - An on-farm education space, offering classes, workshops, and resources locally and virtually, focusing on engaging folk and community.
Woven Words - The social engagement piece of the trifecta, supporting the work of the other two pieces through a blog, correlating podcast, and speaking events.
Meet Farmer Sam
The Mind, The Heart, And The Hands
Behind it All
It all started with a simple dream of wanting to “grow flowers and be happy.” The idea of living a simple life, cyclical with nature. The above quote had been doodled over and over in Sam’s high school notebooks, surrounded by penciled flowers, cabins, and swirling sunshines.
This dream expanded when Sam completed a full business plan within a collegiate program and continued into a formal agricultural degree from Michigan State University. Post college, Sam navigated the challenges of starting a business and became involved in food systems work. The idea of providing equitable access to fresh food and education to community members developed into a purpose behind her passion for growing food at a community level. Sam spent several years growing alongside community organizations, perfecting her craft and learning the importance of partnership and community. Eventually, the universe aligned to step away from a 9-5 and take on the 24/7 of owning a farm and creating a “trifecta” focusing on field grown goods, sustainable fiber, and engaging with good folk!
Through this trifecta, she is able to keep her hands in the dirt, while sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge with individuals far and wide. Sam boasts over a decade of sustainable farm experience, as well as teaching experience with food+farm expertise. Sam filed paperwork to start the farm back in 2019, incubating the business on leased land for 2 seasons, finding much success. By year 3 she had outgrown her little urban plot and purchased a piece of property with her partner in 2021 to live, grow, and work on.
Outside of Woven, Sam can be found hiking lakeshore trails with her fam, indulging in the local food scene, writing and illustrating farm-inspired stories, crafting away with fibers and other natural materials, cozying up with a good book in the garden, or caught up in a new creative endeavor.
A note from Sam: I hold deep gratitude to be a steward of this land, acknowledging that this is ancestral land of Odawa and Peoria territories. Understanding the longstanding history of how I came to reside on this land, I strive to promote stewardship through respect for the surrounding environment with a goal to nourish the land, support landback efforts, and leave no trace through sustainable farming practices.
